March Meeting

Our march meeting was excelent. Unfortunatly, we only had 3 members attend. Deputy Sherriff Mike Shumate gave a presentation on Drug Activitiy in the community. It was very infromative and we were very grateful to have him. His program was so good that we decieded to have him come to the General Meeting in April. We have decided to help get the CrimeStoppers program going in Clayton and perhaps a Neighborhood Watch program in place. At our next meeting we will be discussing the projects we have taken on this year and what needs to be done to implement them. Our next meeting will be April 23rd at 7pm at the Museum. (Sorry we're a week behind schedual) Hope to see you there!

Civic Group Minutes
February 19, 2009

Meeting was called to order at 7:05.
Mary Eakes was introduced as our speaker from Golden Spread Coalition. She spoke to us on the programs that their organization offers. These programs include:
Domestic Violence Program
PCO- Medicare & Medicaid

We talked about ways we could help the coalition and things we were concerned about in our community. The things that the Civic Group committed to do are:
Spread word about Manna Food Box by email to Clayton and surrounding residents and try to get a monthly email distribution list for the Manna Food Box.
Have a Parent & Student Assemblies this October during Red Ribbon week where we can bring speakers to teach parents about the signs of drug use and alcoholism. We also want to address tobacco use and teen pregnancy.
Mary Eakes was thanked for coming and giving her presentation.
Jamie told members that we needed to vote on a Chairman and Secretary for the Civic Group. Jamie Blanks was nominated for Chairman and Jackie Mares was nominated for Secretary. Karan Brower second nomination.
Victoria Baker joined the club.

Kick Off Party!

The Kick Off Party went very well! We had 9 people there, including 4 potential new members. There were also a lot of people who wanted to be there, but couldn't make it. Everyone joined in the conversation about projects and services we wanted to bring to the community. Some of the things mentioned were recycling, interest in getting the Art Center going, Welcome Wagon, knowing more about the problems within the community and perhaps having the Police Chief coming and speaking at one of our meetings, and finding out more about Golden Spread and the services they provide. Meetings will be either the 3rd or 4th Thursday of each month. The next meeting will be at Karan's Art Gallery. 6:30-7:00 will be social time and the meeting will start at 7:00- 8:00. More on the date will come shortly. Thank you to those who were there and we hope those of you who are interested in joining will become a part of our organization. We'd love to have you be a part of us. See you next month!
